The Santa Cruz Education Foundation recently announced an initial grant of $2000 to bring free safety training workshops for parents and children into every elementary school in the Santa Cruz City Schools District. Working with the nonprofit Kidpower, (www.kidpower.org) workshops teach child protection and personal safety skills to prevent abuse and bullying. They cover topics such as stranger safety, confidence skills, boundary-setting skills, positive peer communication, bullying prevention and de-escalation skills to stop a fight before it gets physical.
After the tragic events of the summer, Kidpower’s workshops have been well-received throughout the community but their recent workshops had over 100 people on the waiting list. It is our hope that with the support of the community, we can bring these workshops to every elementary school family and provide a safe and positive environment for parents and children to feel empowered about issues of safety.
Please join us in making these workshops a reality. 100% of your donations will directly fund new workshops at our local elementary schools. Thank you.
